Casio, a brief history.
Casio was founded in 1946 by Tadao Kashio. The brand gained its notoriety in 1957 with the supply of the worlds first entirely electric calculator and they soon became famous for electronics, they were known as the experts in the field and in the 1970’s that they made it into the world of watches.
To this day so many of us know Casio as a watch brand and have been fond of the calculator watch, G Shock and even the TV remote watch that had all of our teachers wondering what was going on.
Casio took full advantage of the Quartz revolution and saw off competitors with mechanical watch background and electronic background. Taking over rivals such as Bulova, Timex, Waltham and Elgin, to name a few. Casio had a clear marketing strategy and solid commercial organisation. Casio were also one of the only newcomers that made it through.
Casio took the liquid crystal display technology from their calculators and put it into the watches, this forged the iconic digital display we all know and love today. As homage to their beginning Casio did release a calculator watch that took the industry by storm and consumers loved it. Casio still make a calculator watch to this day.
As time went on Casio started to create ever more innovative designs and technological breakthroughs. Casio watches today can be found to feature some incredible gadgets including cameras, compass’s, altimeters, GPS location, solar power, emergency beacons and the staple stopwatch. Casio watches have also been tested to destruction and with the release of the G Shock range it has become a challenge to find ever more unique ways of testing the brands durability. Videos on YouTube show some watches that have been sent into the upper atmosphere and dropped to arrive back to earth safe and sound as well as being dropped to the bottom of the Ocean with no problems. Casio are a truly tough brand and the go to for any adventurer.
