Marc Ecko watch E20001G1 repair. In for Battery, Reseal and water resistance test.
This Marc Ecko watch was booked in for a battery, reseal and water resistance testing.
Upon opening the watch it was clear the previous repairer just didn’t care. The watch had the wrong size battery fitted, the battery clamp wasn’t engaged correctly, the clamp was scratched and scuffed, the retaining screw head was snapped and the movement had greasy finger prints all over it. All in all not a good thing to see when opening a watch.
We attempted to rectify the issues by cleaning the watch case, replacing the defective screw, fitting a new battery that was the correct size and securing it in place in the correct way. To our surprise the watch started up and all seemed well.
Unfortunately it failed the quality control test as it would not keep time. We have now ordered an entirely new movement from Japan.
This is something we see all too often, always be careful where you take your watch as it may cost your more money in the long run or you may have to replace the watch entirely.
Once the new movement arrived we fitted it and secured the hands ensuring they were aligned correctly. Then crown was adjusted to fit as the new movement was slightly different, a few upgraded parts on the original.
The internals are seated correctly in the watch and then we give the watch the final clean to ensure there is no contamination once we seal the case back down.
If you compare the first image to this image you can see the difference. Now the parts are all clean and shiny as they should be and should remain so long as a good technician completes the next repair.
The next repair should be in around three years when the battery needs replacing.
Once back together the watch is sealed and tested to make sure it is running well. This watch will be returned to the customer with a guarantee.
