Tissot bezel repair

An unusual repair but one that we wanted to share on a Tissot watch with a damaged bezel.

This customer had got in contact asking if we could help out with a Tissot watch that had paint missing, chips and dents on the bezel. Unfortunately we knew straight away that we could not re-coat the black bezel so looked at getting a replacement. After contacting SWATCH (suppliers for Tissot) we found that the bezel was not available on its own so it would be a new case only, checking the price it was upwards of £150. SWATCH would also insist that the watch be serviced at the same time as having a new case fitted, this took the price above £300 in total.

The repair was seeming like it would not be a viable for the customer. However, we wanted to offer a solution as I’m sure any watch enthusiast would agree, marks of any type on a watch can be very annoying. We offered a few options to make the watch as a whole look better and the polishing service seemed like the best way forward, the customer agreed and decided to go for the matt finish on the bezel. As you can see from the before and after photos it looks fantastic, the bezel now has a smooth finish with a matt steel look that does not at all look out of place. It looks really good and the customer now has a one of a kind custom watch. They also chose to replace the battery in the watch while we had it apart and saved £20 having this done at the same time and now has a renewed 18 month guarantee.

The process:

First we removed the strap and the internals of the watch to ensure they are not disturbed while cleaning. We tape off areas to protect them while we clean the externals. We treated the damaged areas removing the majority of the scratches and dents and then get to work removing the remaining coating from the rest of the bezel to create a uniform look. We use machine and hand polishing techniques to complete this. We continue to polish and remove thin layers of paint and steel until we have a finish we are happy with and ensuring the look is consistent. Once we are happy we remove the masking and clean the entire case to remove adhesives and polishing compounds. Once the watch is re-assembled it is tested for water resistance and quality controlled to ensure the repair is to an acceptable standard.
